Math Workshop
Throughout the year, 5th graders will persevere through challenges and inquiry questions in four main categories:
Number and Quantity (place value, multiplication/division, fractions and decimals) Algebraic Thinking (analyze patterns, mathematical expressions) Measurement and Data (line plots, measurement conversions, volume concepts) Geometry (coordinate planes, two-dimensional shapes) Click the button above for an overview of our year.
So what do "math people" do?
1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them 2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively 3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others 4. Model with mathematics 5. Use appropriate tools strategically 6. Attend to precision 7. Look for and make use of structure 8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning (Standards for Math Practice) |
